ABOUT the civic center

Our History

Welcome to the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, a multipurpose facility located in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Our vision started with community leaders from the city, the Sulphur Springs Independent School District, and Hopkins County, who agreed to replace the original agricultural barn with a new one that would also host livestock shows. As the vision grew, the school district initiated efforts to add a new auditorium for the new high school, which was built adjacent to the Civic Center. Eventually, the decision was made to add a convention center to the facility.

Thanks to a combined effort of the city, the school district, and the county, the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center became a reality on January 1, 1979, with a minimal financial impact on Sulphur Springs residents. The Civic Center has since played host to many rodeos and rodeo championships, and musical artists such as Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, and George Strait have graced its stage. The auditorium is used for concerts, school events, and other community events, and it now boasts 1,250 seats after a five million dollar remodel and addition funded by the Sulphur Springs Independent School District.

In addition to equine events, the Civic Center has a banquet hall that can host a variety of events, including those for Hopkins County schools. The Exhibit Hall, foyers, restrooms, office area, Concession Stand, and Board room were totally remodeled in 2013, giving the facility a more contemporary look.

At the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, we pride ourselves on providing a friendly environment and quality family atmosphere. Our multipurpose facility is perfect for a wide range of events, from rodeos to concerts to school functions. Contact us to book your event or ask any questions, and we will respond promptly the next business day.
